Day 15 – Let’s rock and roll
Bariloche
is located in the province of Río Negro in Argentina. The city was founded in
1902, has about 105 000 inhabitants and is located in the heart of the Nahuel
Huapi National Park and on the shores of the Nahuel Huapi Lake. The city is
also called the Switzerland of South America. Not difficult if you know that
the founders of the city come from
Germany, Switzerland, Austria-Hungary and northern Italy. Both in architecture
with the Swiss chalet style and in the economy, in the first place with the
chocolate industry, you can see the impact still today.
We make the day trip ‘Circuite grande’. At the start it is clear that the
weather gods are still not in a good mood. It's overcast and it is raining. We
still have a glimmer of hope that it will be better in the steppe, but that is
still to be proven. We drive along the Nahuel Huapi Lake and Limahy river. The
dirt road is dangerously at times. Uprooted trees lie along the side of the
road. The result of the bad weather. We continue to follow the Traful river.
Unfortunately it gets not really better. At times the rain pours down. The
photo stops fall almost all literally in the water. We stop in the village
Traful where we warm up with a cup of hot chocolate and a piece of cake. We
continue along to Puerto Arrayanes. From there we follow the route along the
seven lakes. The road runs between the lakes Correntoso and Espeyo to Villa la
Angostura. Here we have some time for lunch. After our gigantic cake, no one is
really hungry. So we share some pizzas in the pizzeria. Exploring the village does
not sound like fun in this terrible weather, so we decide to go back to
Bariloche, a drive of just over an hour. Outside, there is not much to see
apart from the rain. But on the bus we do. Not only see but also hear. Our
driver and guide emerge as real deejays and we entertain ourselves with singing
and dancing. You can’t change the weather but having fun is largely in your own
hands. This was proved today.
