Day 7 - Of extraordinary beauty
After our strenuous but ultimately wonderful
experience at Wadi Bani Khaled yesterday, another wadi is on the program today.
Wadi Shab is sometimes called the most beautiful wadi in the country.
But this natural force is not doable for everyone. The first hundreds of meters is not so bad. A path paved with large and small stones can be walked by everyone. High and steep rocky flanks protect us from the sun that is moving quietly to its highest point. A small oasis with palm trees occasionally provides shade and imagined coolness. The temperatures are already rising high past mid-March. The difficulty lies in the finish. Whereas yesterday our endurance was still limited in distance, today the real test appears to run over many hundreds of meters. The only bright spot is that the level of difficulty is slightly lower. Yet here too worn down slippery rocks are present, sometimes we walk on narrow, slippery ridges and sometimes the marked road is blocked by fallen rocks. People descend and climb, stoop, swear and sometimes suffer pain.
But finding such a paradise as yesterday gives courage to continue. Taking a break from time to time, while enjoying small water features, lovely greenery, beautifully sculpted rocks and cooling shade, we finally arrive at an emerald green river again formed by the water from the mountains. A wonderful zen moment, and the ideal place to enjoy the extraordinary beauty of mother earth.
