Day 8 - Well worth the wait
Why not that archeology study? How many times have I thought this journey: if
only I had. Regret comes always too late of course. Archaeologist or not, you can
also enjoy all those beautiful highlights of Jordan as a tourist. And with
Indiana Jones figuratively by my side, it was double the joy. Not only to enjoy,
but also to discover some gems. Jerash, for example, was an unexpected first
highlight: a beautifully preserved Roman city where I saw myself parading on
the Cardo Maximus in tunic and sandals. At the beautifully preserved temples of
Zeus and Artemis, I already saw myself digging in the earth. And of course
nothing surpasses Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, where you fall
from one surprise into the other. Those 30 years were more than worth the wait.
Currently nothing can surpass this experience.
But in addition to all those archaeological and historically important sites,
Jordan has a lot more to offer.
The country occupies a unique position in the Middle East. This is most evident
at Umm Quais and Mount Nebo with views of neighboring countries Syria and
Lebanon and the West Bank with Palestine and Israel.
Jordan is also more than the arid desert land which it is believed to be. There
is of course the unique and often filmed Wadi Rum, one of the most beautiful
places on our globe, but in addition there are also many green areas and of
course the unique Dead Sea.
In short, Jordan has it all. From history to nature, from desert to culture,
from wonders of the world to canyons, from archaeological sites to dead lakes,
from stunning views to architectural gems. Don't let it take 30 years before
visiting this beautiful country.
