Day 13 – Na'an ku Sé

The wildlife park Na'an ku Sé aims to conserve highly endangered species, especially carnivores. This project is supported financially by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
We are expected here for a drive through the reserve where injured and abandoned animals are brought in by the farmers from around the area and beyond. The animals are kept here in a fenced place where each animal has a few hectares of land. They are not kept in small cages like in a zoo. It is not allowed to breed with these animals. It's just feeding time when we admire the animals closely. First, the leopards get their food. These leopards are brothers who have lived here for a few years now. They devour the meat within a few minutes. Then we go to the caracals, the so-called desert lynxes. They are beautiful animals with particularly pointed ears, but oh so aggressive.

Cats don’t like to share their food. From the lynx it goes to the wild dogs. It's also an ugly animal that can be on the list of the Ugly Five, but they can’t be underestimated. These are a match for a lion. Talking about lions, these are here too. We get to visit some brothers and sisters. The male lion is a beautiful animal  but impatient to eat. He jumps 2 meters to catch his delicious steak.

A couple of  cheetahs are also here. The normal life expectancy for these animals is 12 years. These brothers are 16 years old and have long exceeded their life expectancy. And finally, the baboons get their bananas and nuts.

This reserve is a wonderful initiative and gives these animals a second chance.
The heart beasts who live here in full freedom wave at us as we drive into the African sunset.
